TV One Screenplay Competition

A national search for a feature film writer with a contemporary story focused on the American black cultural experience, that has wide audience appeal. Three finalists are awarded a trip to the 22nd Annual American Black Film Festival in Miami, FL and one winner is selected from those finalists to receive $5,000 and the opportunity to have their screenplay produced for TV One. The winning screenwriter is selected by TV One and announced at the ABFF Awards Presentation.

The TV ONE SCREENPLAY COMPETITION 2018 is meant to encourage and promote the production of creative, contemporary, engaging and relatable screenplays that can be turned into original movies for television. The competition is meant to:

  • Encourage filmmakers to offer a fresh perspective and submit contemporary stories with a focus on the American black cultural experience with wide audience appeal.
  • Encourage filmmakers to creatively center around entertaining, heart-felt and relatable topics that resonate and appeal to African American audiences.
  • Expand upon the genres/formats that tell these entertaining stories. Genres include, but are not limited to comedies, romantic comedies, dramas, and family adventures (submissions should be non-period stories).

ELIGIBILITY: Open to permanent, legal United States (“U.S.”) residents who are physically located in one (1) of the fifty (50) United States or the District of Columbia (excluding Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands or other U.S. territories) and are 21 years of age or older.

PRIZES: Three Finalists will receive a trip to the 22nd Annual American Black Film Festival in Miami, Florida, taking place June 13, 2018 through June17, 2018 from which One screenwriter is selected by TV One to receive $5,000 and the opportunity to have their screenplay produced for TV One. Winner is announced at the ABFF Awards Presentation.
